Now personally, depending on the situation, I’ve had different variations of this. Sometimes I just use a camera by itself, but that’s just because of the situation that I’m in.

One camera that’s really good for vlogging is the GoPro, it’s just an easy camera to have in your pocket, and take it wherever you need to go. It’s also waterproof, shockproof, all that good stuff. And it captures a decent image that’s wide. So you can hold it out, out away from your face, and you can get at that good shot, and there are also some extra features on the GoPro, which help out a lot.

Another camera, which most of you have in your pocket right now, is your phone. And your phone is an important tool because you have it with you, it’s there all the time, and it captures good video, it captures good audio. So it’s a great camera to start with, to learn how to vlog, and to do all that.

But if you want to step it up, and you wanna actually get better at vlogging, you’re gonna wanna use a bigger camera, with a microphone.

Personally, you can use the Panasonic GH5, the GH4, Sony A6500, and Sony A6300.

Vloggers should have smaller cameras, something that’s not super heavy, but something that can also bring a microphone into.

The microphones you can use for recording audio for your vlogs is the Rode VideoMic Pro. Comprises of great microphone, to get a good sound out of doing vlogs, and doing videos on the go.

And the last piece is the stick. A lot of people use a JOBY Tripod, for a smaller footprint you can use a little mini tripod. It works well, it allows you to set the camera down, and still have that tripod shot, but then also, you can hold it as a stick, and it’s not as big as the JOBY.

And that is your basic vlogging kit. And one more thing, about the camera that you’re using, you just gotta use the camera that makes sense, in the situation that you’re filming.

So if you were doing something like river rafting so we’re gonna be just using the GoPro, because it’s waterproof, it’s easy to have on me. It can be attached to your helmet, or attach it to a stick.

And then I can pull it off, and also flog with it. So if you’re in a situation where you don’t want

To destroy your camera, because you’re in water or snow, holding a bigger camera with a microphone

Doesn’t make sense, just use a smaller camera, something that works for the situation.

But, if you do have the bigger setup, you’re gonna wanna use that as much as possible, because you want to get the best footage you can possible, no matter what situation you’re shooting.

Shooting

This is the fun part of making your vlog, shooting all the content, going and doing the adventure, and exploring and capturing it.

But there’s a lot more to shooting, than just going out and just going for it, and just shooting every little bit about your day.

So to shoot an interesting vlog, you’re gonna need to have a story, you’re gonna have to have a journey of some sort, or be going to an event.

Like there’s gotta be some sort of story that goes throughout your day. And you gotta think of it as a film. You gonna make a film every day, not a vlog. And that’s the whole thing, you gotta treat it as a film.

When you’re shooting a film, you have a story, you have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and you tell your story through a plot.

And a plot could be a hero’s journey, it could be a quest, it could be a tragedy like there are different ways to think about story and story structure.

From my personal experience, I urge you to shoot your vlogs first from rental cameras and accessories and get an idea of how to use them for a particular vlog. As I mentioned earlier you need to shoot your vlog from different equipment depending upon the situation. But it’s not easy and affordable for everybody to own every kind of camera for every kind of situation. So what should we do?

In this new era, people are making their living with new work cultures like social media, YouTube, blogging, and cinematography. And for making their content attractive and eye-catching, every content creator wants to use new and latest equipment for their videos and content. And now this is where a camera came to work as an important part of daily lifestyle.

Now the question arises whether buying a camera is a good option or renting a camera is more preferable?

As for the fact, buying a camera is a good option if you want to stick to a particular camera or lens just for your personal use and hobby but it is quite hard for an individual to buy every lens and camera if they are using it professionally. Every new Project and shoot site needs some specific gear for the best shot and for that, you need to have every camera gear available in the market. 

The camera industry changes every day, cameras with more advanced features are introduced every single day. The camera becomes outdated quickly as some new camera with more features is available next day. But can you buy every possible camera you like? What if it is more expensive than you expect? Whether buying a new camera and lenses are worth it, can you make it your return on investment from those particular gears?

All the questions and doubts have a simple and straight answer in front of you. If you are a professional and trying to make living and money out of it. You need to be an expert in handling every possible and advanced level camera and lenses. For that, you have to use that particular camera and its equipment. Today is not the same one year later and two years later so you’re depreciating the value of this equipment in this era of all of us using these shared cars and taxis in Olas and ubers it makes no sense to own a car if you don’t use it regularly likewise the same logic with camera equipment as well if your usage is not very high you should not be investing on camera gear and making it sit in your house and not do anything and also develop fungus and for which you’ll now have to invest on more camera equipment like buying a dehumidifier to keep your camera equipment safe. So if you’re not using your camera for more than fifty days in a year let’s keep that as a thumb rule it makes no sense for you to buy the equipment you’re better off hiring it paying whatever you want and the biggest advantage of hiring it is let’s say you’re going on a mammal photography trip like let’s say to  Ran tambour Ramon at photograph Tigers, you need a 400-millimeter lens for example and next month you’re going to let’s say Corbett or let’s say Pongo to make photographs of birds where 400millimeter is a little short you can be using a 600-millimeter lens. You go to Ladakh to photograph Snow Leopard you can be using an 800-millimeter lens, so don’t get married to just one lens and hire it or buy it and keep it in your house it’s a great idea to hire what you need for that particular day and that particular trip so my choice is to be able to hire equipment when you want to. Unless you know you shoot a lot and buy equipment like let’s say a 70 to 200-millimeter lens which you need for every trip in every place and you shoot more than 50-60 days a year.

So renting a camera is a better and great option than buying a camera because it gives you the flexibility to use that one camera for that particular time but it also gives you an option to switch up to something upgraded if you want.
